Different Areas of Beaches in Cancun/Riviera Maya Areas
Below are some screen grabs from google earth. It was taken in 2024, but I'm not sure what month. I'm posting this on 3/29/2024. So it was sometime in the last few months. Please note that there are a variety of factors that can influence water coloring and seaweed. A gorgeous beach one day, can look terrible the next if the conditions change.
Puerto Morelos
As you can see, this area just south of Cancun has a murky, green feel, and will only get worse throughout the summer/fall as water temperatures increase.
Cancun Hotel Zone
This is in the hotel zone of Cancun. You'll see the drastically different water color.
Playa Mujeres
Playa Mujeres still gets a little seaweed, but nothing like Puerto Morelos (30ish minutes north of Cancun)
Area just north of Playa
Here is an area just north of Playa del Carmen (30ish minutes south of Cancun).
